Me
My name is Jordan Johnson
Ever since the age of 6, I've been obsessed with blades and all things sharp. This obsession took many years off my poor parents lives, and left me with my fair share of scars. Throughout my life I bought one knife after the other, chasing that fresh edge.
Eventually, I got sick of buying new knives whenever my old ones became dull. This lead me into the expansive hobby of sharpening. I fell down the rabbit hole and became obsessed. I dove deep into edge geometry, angles, steel compositions, abrasives, grit progressions, edge finishes etc. I found myself sharpening my dozens and dozens of knives repeatedly, often dulling them on purpose, just so I could sharpen them again.

I have spent my entire post-college working career in the corporate world at a desk job behind a computer. Eventually, I burnt out. I wanted to do something I enjoyed, something I was passionate about, something with my hands, something where I could interact with my community. I started evaluating my various hobbies and passions to see if there was a viable business option, after researching, it became clear that a reliable, trustworthy, and professional sharpening service was desperately needed in Kitsap County. Thus, On-Site Sharpening was born.

-
What method do you use to sharpen?I have a wide variety of sharpening, honing and stropping methods in my arsenal. Each item I sharpen is independently evaluated and matched with the appropriate technique. This includes whetstones, jigged stone systems, belt powered systems, and wheel based systems, just to name a few.
-

I heard a rumor that belt sharpeners damage knives, is that true?Great question! This is a common misconception, one that I used to have myself. People ruin knives, tools don't. If the machines are set up correctly, and used properly, they are perfectly safe for your knives and tools. Can they damage knives? Of course, as can any other method if not executed correctly. I only take off the necessary amount of material to get the edge you're looking for while closely monitoring the temperature of the item to ensure its temper is not altered.
